lighting workshop

Subject: GRP FREE Light Tech Workshop
Date: February 11, 2008
Time: 7-9pm
Location: Memorial Hall 198 Main Street, Monson, MA 01057

Details: Monday, February 11, from 7-9pm Greene Room Productions is holding a FREE Light Tech Workshop. Richard Dionne, local light, sound, and camera technician will be instructing. Rich has worked locally with many different theatre companies including Panache (at City Stage), Exit 7 ( Ludlow ), The Majestic Theatre (W. Springfield), Shea Theatre (Turners Falls) to name just a few. He began his work as a novice taking a lighting course from the Washington Street Players. After gaining basic knowledge of how a theatrical lighting system works, he started getting jobs to learn more. Now, years later, Rich has an overflowing schedule of productions in which he is employed to run lights, sound, and camera. Rich Dionne is a prime example of one who pursued an interest, taught himself through experience, and is now a successful technician in the theatre world. Greene Room Productions hopes to attract others throughout the region that have similar interests, and would like to start their technician education. GRP’s FREE Light Tech Workshop is a beginner class. Because the workshop will take place at GRP’s Performance Venue, Memorial Hall, 198 Main Street , Monson , MA 01057 , students will have the opportunity to view a real lighting system. Rich will introduce students to the different varieties of lights available, how the system is hooked up, the proper safety precautions, and how to operate the light board. Students will have an opportunity at
the end of the workshop to design a mini scene, and present their
lighting ideas to the class! Abby Gregory ( Wales , MA),
GRP’s lighting “intern” for the upcoming musical,
“The Last Five Years” (February 22-24, 29 & March 1-2, 7-9)
will be attending the GRP FREE Light Tech Workshop as an
introduction to her performance work experience.
If you would like to attend or are interested in “production
internships” please call ahead (413)668-7284.

Monson – Greene Room Productions presents, “The Last Five Years”, a wildly funny and crushingly sad musical written and composed by Jason Robert Brown. This modern Broadway pop musical has a jazzy flair focusing on the lives of a couple as they wind their way through the ups and downs of their relationship. This “relationship carousel” is presented “in-the-round” to bring this intimate show closer to the audience. The lead female character, Cathy Hyatt (played by Erin Greene), remembers the last five years, starting in the present and reflects back to the beginning her relationship with Jamie. The lead male character, Jamie Wellerstein (played by Dave Wallace) starts from the beginning of his relationship with Cathy and works his way to the end, in the present. The audience will take away a great deal of food for thought as they can see both sides of a story and the importance of communication, honesty and perceptions in a relationship.

The Last Five Years will be performed at Memorial Hall, 198 Main Street in Monson at the following times: February 22-24, 29, March 1-2 & 7-9 Saturday & Sunday at 8 PM and Sundays 2PM. Ticket prices range from $12 - $15. Group rates are available. For more information call 413 668-7284, mail GRP, P.O. Box 565, Monson, MA 01057 or http://www.greeneroomproductions.com/
