HAMPSHIRE SHAKESPEARE ANNOUNCES SUMMER SEASON

Amherst – Young love –and its tragic and comedic outcomes – dominates the plays that make up Hampshire Shakespeare Company's Shakespeare Under the Stars 2008 summer season. Romeo and Juliet, under the direction of Bob Laviolette, features a cast of exceptionally talented young actors joined by Company veterans in this familiar tale. Previews for the show are Wednesday and Thursday, June 25 and 26; the show opens June 27 through July 13. Curtain time is 7:30 pm at the Hartsbrook School, 193 Bay Road, Hadley, with shows running Wednesday through Sunday.

The second show of the season, the romantic comedy As You Like It, is directed by Chris Rohmann. Previews are July 16 and 17, with opening night on Friday, July 18, running through July 27. The Hampshire Shakespeare Young Company production of As You Like It runs August 1-3.

General admission tickets are $16; students and seniors $10; children to age 18 are $6. Preview performances are open to the public: tickets are $10 adults, $5 children. Tickets for the Young Company performances are $5.

The performances are held on the outdoor stage in the Meadow at Hartsbrook, and seating is on a first-come basis. In the event of rain the performance will be moved indoors.

Hampshire Shakespeare Company Young Company auditions

Hampshire Shakespeare Company announces open auditions for the Young Company production of As You Like It directed by Chris Rohmann. The As You Like It production week will run July 28-August 3; show dates are August 1-3. There is a fee for participation in this workshop production. Auditioners should come prepared with a two-minute (maximum) classical monologue and ready to do some cold reading. Auditions will be held at TheHartsbrook School at 193 Bay Road in Hadley on Saturday April 12, 1-5 pm andSunday April 13, 1-5 pm. For directions to the school, visit http://www.hartsbrook.org/directions.htm. The Young Company welcomes actors ages 10 through 17 to audition; no previous Shakespeare experience is necessary. Some actors cast in leading roles work with an actingc oach during the rehearsal process for the main stage production of As You Like It, as well as take minor but fun roles in the adult show. Mainstage show dates are July 16-27 (Wednesday through Sunday). Hampshire Shakespeare Company is a community-based organization with part-time seasonal professional staff. The company brings together professional, amateur and student performers, offering audiences and actors a range of theatrical experiences from the most profound to the most playful. Our summer performances are held on the campus of The Hartsbrook School on an open-air stage with a majestic view of the Holyoke Range.
